02How we pick

How we pick a dish

Every listing goes through the same three steps.

STEP 01

Find the place

Independent spots that locals and trusted food writers keep recommending. No big chains.

STEP 02

Pick the one dish

The order the kitchen does best, at a price that makes sense.

STEP 03

Check it and date it

Price and halal status get a "last checked" date.

THE RULE

Nobody can pay to change which dish we pick.

03 · Our promise

Every 20th plate is shared

5% of every pound we earn, from day one, buys a meal tag at a small partner restaurant.

0plates shared so far

We haven't earned our first pound yet, so it starts at zero.

How it's shared, fairly
  • 50% where tags get claimed fastest, so meals reach people who are hungry now
  • 30% taking turns between partners who keep Pay it forward running
  • 20% to new and small partners, so no board starts empty
The fair rules
  • No restaurant gets more than a quarter of a month's plates.
  • Restaurants are paid the full menu price and never pay us to receive plates.
  • Plates never change which dish we pick or where a place appears.
  • No plates go to places owned by our team or their families.
  • Every month we publish how many plates went where.

05Who we are

Picked by a chef

UK Food Spot is a small team led by a working chef in the UK. We know how a kitchen makes a dish properly, and how it feels to spend money on the wrong order.

So this guide does one job: tell you the best thing to eat at each place, and what it costs. If something on a listing is wrong, tell us and we fix it.

Our kitchen roots are in a culture where you never let a guest leave hungry. That idea is part of this guide too: honest prices, food for every diet, and a little kept aside for whoever needs it.

07Questions

Questions

Is everything here halal?

No. Dishes marked "Halal (reported)" were described as halal by a published guide. Always ask the restaurant if it matters to you; we show when each status was last checked.

Is it safe if I have coeliac disease?

We only mark a place "Fully gluten-free" when a coeliac-focused guide lists it as fully gluten-free. Kitchens and suppliers change, so always confirm with the venue before you order. Look for Coeliac UK accreditation where you can.

How does Pay it forward work?

At places with the "Pay it forward" label, you can pay for one extra meal when you order. The restaurant keeps it for the next person who asks. If you need one, take a tag from the board (or ask at the counter) and hand it in. One per person per visit. You don't have to explain.

How up to date are the prices?

See a wrong price? Open the dish and tap "Price changed? Tell us". Each dish shows when it was last checked. Prices in London change often, so treat them as a guide and check the menu on the day.

Do restaurants pay to be listed?

No. Listing is free. If we ever run paid features, they will be clearly marked "Sponsored" and will still go through the same checks.

How do you make money?

Right now, we don't. UK Food Spot is free, with no ads and no paid placements. If that ever changes, anything paid will be clearly labelled, and it will never change which dish we pick.

Something is wrong on a listing. What do I do?

Use the restaurant form on our partners page, or tell us through the newsletter reply. We fix errors as soon as we can.

Your location stays on your phone. We never send or store it. Distances are measured to the area centre, so treat them as a guide.
