Your data, kept small.
Last updated 17 October 2026
We collect as little as possible. No account is needed to use UK Food Spot, and we never sell your data.
Who we are
UK Food Spot (ukfoodspot.co.uk) is run from the United Kingdom. For anything about your data, email partners@ukfoodspot.co.uk.
What we collect, and why
- The Friday Drop newsletter: your email address, to send the newsletter you asked for. Our newsletter provider, beehiiv, stores it and sends the emails for us. You confirm your address first, and every email has an unsubscribe link.
- Restaurant form: the details you type in, including a contact email, to check and publish a listing.
- Price reports, dish requests and place suggestions: the dish, place, price, request or Instagram name you type. Nothing else.
- Dish photos (Photo Hunt): the photo you send, the dish it shows, and the name or handle you want as credit. We shrink the photo on your phone before it is sent. We only publish it with the credit you chose, and we take it down if you ask.
- Daily dish notifications (optional): if you turn them on, your browser gives us a push address, plus the city and time you chose. We use it only to send that daily message. Turn it off on the site or in your browser settings and it is deleted.
Our lawful basis is your consent (newsletter, notifications) and our legitimate interest in running and correcting the guide (forms and reports).
What stays on your device
Saved dishes, dishes you mark "I tried this" (used for Your Food Year), your chosen city, theme and layout are stored only in your own browser. "Near me" uses your location only on your device to sort dishes by distance. It is never sent to us or stored.
Services we use
- Cloudflare hosts the site (Cloudflare Pages) and stores form submissions and notification settings. Like any web host, it processes technical data such as IP addresses to deliver pages.
- OpenStreetMap map tiles load when you open the map view, so your browser contacts their servers.
- Open-Meteo provides the weather for the city you selected, using the city centre, never your own location.
- cdnjs (Cloudflare) delivers the map software.
- Google Workspace handles our email.
Cookies
We do not use tracking or advertising cookies. To see how many people visit and which pages help, we use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts visits without cookies and without collecting personal data about visitors. If we add affiliate links in future, the partner may set a cookie when you click one, so they know the visit came from us. Any such link will be clearly labelled (see Terms & disclosure).
Some dish pages offer "See their photo": the restaurant's own Instagram post, shown with Instagram's official embed. Nothing loads from Instagram until you tap it; once you do, Instagram (Meta) may set its own cookies under its own privacy policy.
How long we keep data
Newsletter emails until you unsubscribe. Form submissions for up to 24 months, or less if you ask. Notification settings until you turn them off or they stop working.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask to see, correct or delete your data, object to how we use it, or withdraw consent at any time. Email us. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
